Is anyone else enjoying the live remakes of old Disney classics as much as I am??? Seriously, they are outdoing themselves while at the same time not losing the focus of the old story.

Today I’m giving you our thoughts on the newly released movie, Pete’s Dragon. Which arrived on Blu-Ray/DVD and digital HD November 29th, 2016.

About

“Pete’s Dragon,” a reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film centered on an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliot — who just so happens to be a dragon — comes home on Nov. 29 on Digital HD and Blu-ray™.

Families will be captivated by this magical movie followed by never-before-seen bonus features, including a revealing look at director David Lowery’s personal diary kept during the filming of “Pete’s Dragon,” the design process behind the lovable dragon Elliot, deleted scenes, a tour of the film’s breathtaking production location of New Zealand, audio commentary by filmmakers and actors and hilarious bloopers.

“Pete’s Dragon” stars Bryce Dallas Howard (“Jurassic World”) as Grace, a forest ranger in the Pacific Northwest who happens upon 10-year-old Pete, played by Oakes Fegley (“This is Where I Leave You”). Oona Laurence (“Southpaw”) is Natalie, the 11-year-old daughter of Jack, a lumber-mill owner played by Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”). Karl Urban (“Star Trek”) is Jack’s bumbling brother Gavin and Oscar®-winner Robert Redford (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) portrays Mr. Meacham, an old wood carver who delights the local children with tales of a fierce dragon.

Our thoughts

Watching the trailers, I wasn’t sure how Pete’s Dragon was going to turn out but it was amazing! It was so nice to see an old favourite made new again for younger generations. I loved how they animated the dragon, making him more realistic and less goofy like the original cartoon image. My kids also really enjoyed the film, my daughter (11), says “I loved it. I found it gripping with some sad parts and some really funny parts. I thought that they left some cliffhangers and I think it would be neat to see if they decide to do a sequel

My son (9) simply said, “I liked it” I tried to get more out of him but that was all he was willing to give up. I did, however, show them clips from the original movie and they both said it looked weird and goofy and they had no interest in seeing it. 😉

Now for the fun part! I haven’t done one of these in a while and I think for this one I’ll do a simple one question entry. I get to giveaway one copy of Pete’s Dragon to a lucky reader! Giveaway ends December 21st at midnight. *Canadians only
