I mentioned last week that I was going to have my two oldest cook the majority of the meals. And they did! Quite successfully too. I’m pretty proud of them. The meals they made were fairly basic but you have to start somewhere. And I think they really enjoyed the extra responsibility and I also believe that it made them appreciate the meals a lot more because they were so proud of their accomplishment. I plan to continue having them aid in meal prep and clean up, though now that everyone is home it will look a little different as one of them will need to be watching the younger two while I am working with one of them.
I think it’s really important to get them involved with day-to-day housework including meal prep, so they are prepared when they are living on their own. Plus I want them to continue in our whole foods approach to eating when they live on their own, so they are going to need to know how to cook for themselves! It takes just as long to prepare a simple whole foods meal, as it does to prepare a prepackaged food item from the store in most cases. Plus it’s wayyyy cheaper in the long run.
I’ll keep you posted with how this is going and maybe do some separate “helping in the kitchen” posts. What do you think?
So here is what is on our menu for this week(and yes I realize this is Easter weekend but since we don’t have family coming, I’m not doing anything special meal wise):
Monday – Salmon with Bacon Braised Brussel Spouts
Tuesday – Quiche & Salad
Wednesday – Chicken Pot Pie (Looking into a gluten free option for myself)
Thursday – Zucchini Pasta with a Bolognese Sauce
Friday – Chicken with Tomato Risotto
Saturday – Pulled Pork (not sure exactly how I’m doing this one yet )
Sunday – Pizza
What will you be eating this week?
